Proportional valves: Functions and Applications
Proportional control valves are devices that control and vary the fluid flow, pressure and direction in hydraulic systems. When the electrical input changes, these valves enable changing the output accordingly. They have a closed loop system and are controlled by electrical inputs from the sensor. They are also used as direction control valves or pressure control valves.
Working Principle:
When an external signal passes through a device, the electrical currents are passed to the valve drive and ultimately to the spool, which shifts and creates a path. The coils in the valve carry varying voltages and create a proportional force that in turn leads to a shift in the spool.
The function of proportional valves is to provide a smooth and continuous variation in flow or pressure in response to an electrical input, thus being termed high-performance valves. They quickly achieve stable pressures through accurate and precise responses.
Applications:
Proportional valves have varied uses-
- Basic machinery processes
- Hydro-pneumatic systems
- Tensioning, spraying
- Analytical instrumentation
- Spot welding, tire balancing, PET blowing
- Press systems, molding machines
- Flight simulators, airframe testing, etc.
Types of Proportional Control Valves:
- Directional control valves
- Pressure control valves
- Flow control valves
At Shri Ank Enterprise, we provide hydraulic proportional valves of the Hydrank brand as a one-to-one replacement for the Yuken brand-
1. EFBG series proportional pressure and flow control valves
These valves adopt two electrical loops to control the system’s pressure and flow and use slight pressure drops to track the load pressure, which saves energy and controls the pump pressure.
These are interchangeable with Yuken’s EFBG valves and are available with two pressure settings.
Maximum pressure
210 BAR Coil voltage
24V DC
Pressure settings 140 BAR
210 BAR
2. EDG series proportional directly operated relief valves
The Hydrank EDG series leads to controlling the pressure in the hydraulic system. They are replacements for the Yuken EDG valves. Available in two pressure settings, the valves operate the system with high accuracy.
Maximum pressure
250 BAR Coil voltage
24V DC
Pressure settings 160 BAR
250 BAR
Before buying proportional control valves, one needs to consider the flow and pressure, the operating system temperature, and the required reverse sensitivity.
With Shri Ank Enterprise, you can be assured of the products’ quality, standards and cost-effectiveness.
